The Novel Neighbor

7905 Big Bend Boulevard, Webster Groves, St. Louis, Missouri 63119, United States Карта

From a Death Row cellblock to a twilight garden party on Manhattan's Upper East Side. From a dirt-poor enclave in Mississippi's Yazoo Delta to the Starlight Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria. And, finally, to the monumental chaos, smoke, and despair girdling the World Trade Center towers on 9/11. A career in newspaper journalism, including the Globe-Democrat, led former St. Louisan Catherine Underhill Fitzpatrick from Missouri U's journalism school to an award-winning career and enough memories to fill a book. Her fourth, the memoir Recorder of Deeds, chronicles moments from that award-winning career, including a rainy-day rooftop chat with a former U.S. president and a whispered invitation from a Mafia don, a faux pas that infuriated Lauren Bacall, a warning that saved the life of Uma Thurman, a regal nod from a disgraced British prince, and a bear-hug from a grieving FDNY fire chief. Fitzpatrick, who grew up in Richmond Heights and Town & Country, has set all four of her books in St. Louis locations. She will reprise highlights from her remarkable career in a one-hour program followed by the sale and signing of her new memoir, Recorder of Deeds. 1-2:30 Sunday, May 22, at The Novel Neighbor Bookshop's event space, 7905 Big Bend Blvd. Admission is free. Adults only, please.
